Frequently Asked Questions
What is the process of working with you to build a brand identity?
I love answering this question, because I love the process of working with my clients so much!
Generally speaking, here’s what the process looks like:
Phase 1: Discovery – You will book your FREE discovery call, where we will chat and see if we are a good fit for working together. If you decide to purchase my services, I will email you a contract, brand questionnaire, and the link to our collaborative Pinterest moodboard (for the Platinum Branding Package). The invoice will come in a separate email. You will sign the contract and return it, fill out the questionnaire and submit it, and begin pinning some things on the mood board with instructions that come in the email.
Phase 2: Design – Once I have received the paid invoice, the contract, and the brand questionnaire and you and I have pinned a few things to the Pinterest board, we will have a quick 30-minute Zoom kickoff call to ensure that we are on the same page regarding the direction in which you want to go for your branding. (This step is optional.)
After that, I will begin working on your 3 logo concepts. Once I have finished the initial concepts, we will get on another Zoom call where I will present them to you. You will choose one and tell me about any revisions or variations you would like to see. I also typically present your branded color palette at this time if you have purchased the Platinum Branding Package.
Revisions to the logo and/or palette can be approved via email or through another Zoom chat. After the initial logo is chosen and is exactly as you want it, I will design the secondary logo and logo icon based on the primary logo design.
Once all of the logos are completed and approved, I finalize your custom color palette and choose fonts for you to utilize, usually providing 3-4 combinations for you to choose from.
Phase 3: Delivery – After the 3 logo variations, color palette, and font pairings are designed and approved by you, I begin the exporting process.
You receive a zip folder containing the following elements: logos in all color variations in JPG, PNG, and EPS formats; branded color palette including HEX, RGB, and CMYK codes; font files; a brand board; and a Brand Identity Guidelines booklet.
You also receive a short questionnaire about our time together, which is not required but highly appreciated!!
What is the typical timeline for a brand identity?
The answer to this question is dependent on several factors, like how many revisions are needed and how responsive you are to emails, but a typical brand identity takes around 10 business days to be created and delivered.
Do you use Canva to make the logos?
I do not use Canva to make my logos. I design all logos and brand elements in a program called Affinity Designer, which is very similar to Adobe Illustrator.
What if I don’t like any of the logo choices?
This is definitely something we want to avoid! 😉 However, should this happen, there are a few steps we can take. After all, that’s what revisions are for!
If you like certain elements of one or more of the logos, we can use those as a springboard. I will head back to the drawing board and make revisions based on your feedback, and we will reconvene after I have developed a new concept.
If you do not like any single elements from any of the logos, we will go back into the Discovery Phase, where we will go back to your branding questionnaire and branding mood board to see what elements you feel the logo designs are missing. From there, I will revise one of the provided concepts.
Please keep in mind that my ultimate goal is for you to have a cohesive brand identity that you love and are proud of. We will not be finished with your logo until you are satisfied with it!
Why do you create a Pinterest mood board?
When you’re not immersed in the world of visual branding, it can be hard to put into words exactly what you’re looking for. It can be hard to communicate what you want or think your ideal client will be drawn to. It’s kind of like when you go into a new restaurant thinking, “I don’t know what I want, but I’ll know it when I see it!”
I know that many designers don’t use Pinterest to make mood boards (or at least, don’t make the Pinterest board collaborative with the design client) because they don’t want the client to get stuck on a particular logo concept or palette.
I have also found that many people are naturally drawn to things without even realizing it. In the branding mood board, I take note of things like what styles of fonts are present, any geometric shape patterns (like if you added in lots of things with circles), colors, general styles, etc. and try to incorporate those into the brand identity.
My rationale is: You are the expert on your brand. You know it inside and out. I’m the design consultant. When we work together and are on the same page, we can design a beautiful and cohesive brand that represents your business and gives you the confidence you need to stand out in front of your ideal audience.
