In a world where it seems that everyone is building their own business, what it it about YOUR business that makes you stand out amongst the sea of people offering the same service as you?
Let me give you a hint – it starts with a B and it rhymes with GRAND. 😉
Yes! Your BRAND is what allows you to be instantly identified by your dream client.
Here’s a fact- if someone recognizes your brand, they’re more likely to choose you over your competitors even if they don’t know anything about your company at the time!
Pretty cool, right?
There are actually a few ways that branding can affect your business even beyond the nugget I’ve already told you. If you want to learn about the importance of a strong brand, read on!
(Psst – Wondering what exactly I’m talking about? Branding is a really broad term that encompasses everything from your logo to your brand colors to your voice and messaging. If you want to dive deeper, you can learn more from this blog post!)
Strong Branding Gives You a Competitive Edge
Sound familiar? This is similar to what has already been touched on, but it’s important enough to mention again! Your brand is what makes you stand out in a sea of competitors. When potential clients see and recognize your brand, you automatically have an edge over other brands they might be considering, even if your competitors have more experience than you. Familiarity is SO important, friends!
Strong Branding Allows You to Pivot
It happens to all of us – you’re trucking along in your business, learning and growing, and you suddenly find yourself at a crossroads. There is a brand-new direction that you’d love to take your business, but it seems so different from what your audience has come to expect from you! Can your brand handle the pivot?
Answer: if your branding is strong, then YES!
As an example, I have made several pivots in several years in business. When I first started Rebecca Fletcher Designs (formerly known as Coffee, Cats, and Kinder), I was a teacher blogger and designed teacher t-shirts and mugs. Then, I added Disney themed shirts into my repertoire. I dabbled for a second in offering print-on-demand service assistance, but then moved into branding and logo design.
It seems like a lot of movement, but the majority of my audience has stayed with me throughout all of my pivots because I have stayed consistent with my branding.
Strong Branding Builds the Know/Like/Trust Factor
I feel like a broken record because I say this all the time, but people like to work with brands that they know, like, and trust. It’s hard to get a new client who has just heard about your business 5 minutes ago, because they (understandably) don’t know if they can trust you yet.
Having strong branding, showing up consistently, and having a repertoire of recognizable and valuable content allows people to grow to know (i.e. recognize), like, and trust your brand… and you by proxy!
Strong Branding Keeps You Front of Mind
Remember how I mentioned that branding encompasses everything from your logo to your colors to your voice?
The final piece of the branding puzzle we’re building today is that strong branding keeps you at the forefront of your ideal client’s mind!
When you have a strong brand voice, when you discuss the same topics (even ones outside your scope of work), when you consistently sprinkle f-bombs like candy or have a catchphrase that you end every post or podcast with, you’re solidifying your brand and helping it stick in your ideal client’s mind.
If you always talk about your cats in your marketing, your ideal client might think of you when they see a cute fluffy kitten.
If you often talk about your love for chocolate milk, they might think about you at the grocery store when they see a new brand.
If you love the word kerfuffle and always work that word into your blog posts and podcasts, they’ll think of you when they hear it.
If one of your brand colors is mustard yellow and you use it religiously in your marketing, they’ll think of your brand when they see that color.
I could think of a million more examples, but hopefully you get the picture!
